Olympic figure skating gold medalist Oksana Baiul has placed her $1.2 million Shreveport mansion on the market as she prepares to relocate to Las Vegas amid divorce proceedings from her husband Carlo Farina. Baiul, who won gold for Ukraine at the 1994 Winter Olympics when she was just 16 years old, shared her decision on social media, explaining that she was unable to sustain her career in Shreveport.
The former champion purchased the Louisiana property in 2022, but is now planning to return to Las Vegas with her 10-year-old daughter. In Las Vegas, Baiul will work with the Vegas Golden Knights organization, returning to a city where she previously resided.
"Thank you, Shreveport !!! House is for sale, moving back to Las Vegas … I love u all. I am sorry it didn't work out," Baiul announced via Facebook.
This decision comes during a challenging period for Baiul, who began divorce proceedings from Carlo Farina in summer 2025 after approximately ten years of marriage. Her original plans to establish a skating school in Shreveport never materialized.
Elaborating on her situation, Baiul wrote, "I came here to create some things, but they did not come to fruition... I have to go where the ice exists. I can't make a living in Shreveport. Unfortunately, I can't. I do love all the people here. I came for a reason, and it did not happen."
Following her Olympic victory in 1994, Baiul moved to Simsbury, Connecticut, where she trained at the International Skating Center of Connecticut. Her subsequent journey took her to various American cities before she settled in Pennsylvania, where she met her husband. The couple relocated to Louisiana in 2022, acquiring their Shreveport property for $600,000.
On September 20, Baiul listed the five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence for $1,195,000. The 1925 Georgian Italianate mansion, originally designed by architect Edward F. Neild for an oil baron, sits on a 1.3-acre plot and features seven fireplaces, a gated driveway, six garages, and an outdoor fountain. The property has undergone careful restoration over the past three years.
Describing her home as "the most beautiful mansion in all of Shreveport," Baiul reflected on her life journey in an interview with KSLA: "I've made all of the money in the world, lost all of the money in the world. I've been married, now I'm divorced. But, if you fall down on the ice, can you imagine how many times I had to fall down and get up?"
Baiul officially announced her separation from her husband in August 2025, ending a decade-long marriage.
