US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Palestinian group Hamas on Saturday, urging them to swiftly agree to a peace deal with Israel or face potential consequences in Gaza.
"Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again," Trump declared on his Truth Social platform, adding, "Let's get this done, FAST."
The president acknowledged Israel's temporary halt in bombing operations "to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed," though Gaza's civil defence agency reported dozens of overnight Israeli attacks on Gaza City.
Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff are traveling to Egypt to finalize details regarding hostage releases and to discuss the US-backed peace proposal aimed at ending the Israel-Hamas conflict, as confirmed by a White House official to AFP.
Hamas responded positively to the peace plan on Friday, expressing readiness to release all hostages and engage in further discussions about the deal that would end two years of devastating war.
In response, Trump called for Israel to "immediately" cease its bombing campaign in Gaza, although Israel stated on Saturday that its military operations in the territory were continuing.
The humanitarian situation remains dire, with Gaza's civil defense agency reporting at least 57 people killed since dawn in Israeli strikes, including 40 fatalities in Gaza City alone.
