US Treasury Proposes $1 Trump Commemorative Coin for America's 250th Independence Anniversary

The US Treasury is considering a $1 commemorative coin featuring President Donald Trump for America's 250th independence anniversary in 2026. The preliminary design shows Trump with a raised fist alongside "fight, fight, fight" on one side and his profile with "liberty" on the reverse. This follows congressional authorization for semiquincentennial commemorative coins, though final designs remain pending government shutdown resolution.

Washington:

The United States Treasury is evaluating a proposal to create a $1 commemorative coin featuring President Donald Trump to honor America's 250th independence anniversary in 2026, according to a Friday announcement.

Preliminary design images reveal Trump with a raised clenched fist on one side accompanied by the phrase "fight, fight, fight" - commemorating his response after surviving an assassination attempt last year.

The reverse side presents Trump's profile with "liberty" inscribed above and "1776-2026" below, as shown in images shared by Treasurer Brandon Beach on the social media platform X.

A Treasury spokesperson clarified, "While a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected to commemorate the United States' semiquincentennial, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles."

Beach indicated on X that additional information would be released following the resolution of the current government shutdown, which has temporarily halted numerous federal operations while legislators remain deadlocked over new spending legislation.

In 2020, Congress passed legislation authorizing the Treasury Secretary to produce $1 coins in 2026 "with designs emblematic of the U.S. semiquincentennial."

For the 1976 bicentennial celebration, the Treasury organized a national design competition and selected a sculpture student's concept featuring the Liberty Bell, an iconic symbol of American independence, alongside the moon for the $1 coin.

The opposite side of that coin depicted former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who passed away in 1969 and became the first president featured on a $1 coin in 1971.

When asked if President Trump had viewed the draft design, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt responded, "I'm not sure if he's seen it, but I'm sure he'll love it."
