Prince William resides with his family at Windsor Castle, where he's often seen navigating the grounds on an electric scooter.
In a candid interview, Britain's Prince William, aged 43, reveals that he's prepared for "change" in his future role as monarch. Speaking with Hollywood star Eugene Levy, the prince states: "Change is on my agenda –- change for good. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen."
The Prince of Wales reflects thoughtfully on royal traditions: "Tradition has a huge part in all of this (royal life) but there's also points where you look at tradition and go: 'Is that still fit for purpose today?'"
William, an accomplished helicopter pilot and horseman, surprises Levy during their Windsor Castle meeting by arriving on an electric scooter. As he zips through an ancient archway into the castle courtyard, the 78-year-old Canadian actor inquires if this is his typical transportation. "It is around here," William responds with a laugh. "It gets around quite nicely... it's fun."
The prince shares this historic royal estate with his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their three children: George (12), Charlotte (10), and Louis (7).
This conversation with Levy, recorded for Apple TV's "The Reluctant Traveler," stands as one of William's most personal interviews. The pair are seen walking with William's cocker spaniel Orla through Windsor's grounds and enjoying a pint at the local pub, The Two Brewers.
When asked about Windsor's historical weight, William acknowledges: "History can be a real weight and an anchor around you," but emphasizes it's "important to live for the here and now."
The prince describes 2024 as the "hardest year" of his life, following cancer diagnoses for both his wife Catherine and his father, King Charles III. "Life is said to test us as well and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are," he reflects.
Catherine is gradually returning to public duties after announcing her remission, while Charles continues treatment. William admits: "When it's to do with family and things like that, then that's where I start getting a bit overwhelmed -– as I think most people would."
"Because it's more personal, it's more about feeling, it's more about upsetting the rhythm," he explains, adding how "proud" he is of how his wife and father have handled their health challenges. "My children have managed brilliantly as well."
The prince reveals that part of his parenting strategy with Catherine includes a strict no-phones policy for their children. "We sit and chat, it's really important. None of our children have any phones, which we're very strict about."
