This follows a pattern of delayed economic data releases this week that has deprived officials and business leaders of essential decision-making information.

At the core of the congressional impasse is Democratic insistence on extending health care subsidies scheduled to expire—subsidies that protect millions of lower-income Americans from substantial cost increases.

Republicans, who hold majorities in Congress and control the executive branch but require Democratic support for funding legislation, have not proposed addressing this healthcare concern.
