Gerard Miller has been prohibited from practicing his profession, interacting with minors, or making television appearances.
A prominent French psychoanalyst has been charged with sexually assaulting six women, with allegations that he raped three of them when they were minors.
Gerard Miller, who has been a frequent commentator on radio and television since the 1990s, is among several high-profile men accused in France following the global #MeToo movement.
On Thursday, investigating magistrates charged the 77-year-old with abusing six women between 2000 and 2020, including the rape of three individuals who were minors over the age of 15, according to the Paris prosecutor's office.
Authorities are also investigating him for the alleged rape of another minor in 2000.
Miller has been banned from practicing his profession, contacting minors, or appearing on television.
Neither Miller nor his legal representative immediately responded to AFP's request for comment, though he has previously denied all allegations against him.
The first legal complaint was filed in early last year.
The prosecutor's office stated, "Following the initial complaint, approximately 20 women provided testimony to the judiciary, describing incidents of a sexual nature occurring after hypnosis sessions, alcohol-influenced evenings, or under the guise of professional meetings."
The victims were reportedly between 14 and 25 years old when the alleged assaults or rapes occurred.
Several cases could not be pursued due to the statute of limitations.
Elle magazine and the Mediapart website reported early last year on accusations that Miller committed sexual offenses from the 1990s through 2020.
According to these reports, he invited students and young women from television audiences to spend time with him and attempted to assault them, often after providing alcohol or hypnotizing them.
Miller has maintained that he "never forced anyone" and has denied practicing hypnosis in his office or home.
A series of similar allegations involving well-known individuals have emerged in France in recent years.
In one case, actress Judith Godreche accused film director Benoit Jacquot, who is 25 years her senior, of raping her during a relationship that began when she was 14 years old. Jacquot has denied these charges.
Godreche has since become a prominent figure in the French #MeToo movement and has sparked important discussions within cultural industries about preventing abuse.
Screen icon Gerard Depardieu was convicted in May of sexually assaulting two women on a film set in 2021 and is scheduled to stand trial for allegedly raping an actress significantly younger than him in 2018. Depardieu has appealed both verdicts and denies any wrongdoing.
