US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he will be meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in four weeks, with soybean trade issues being a major topic on their agenda.
President Trump highlighted that American soybean farmers are currently suffering as China has halted purchases for "negotiating reasons." He expressed his commitment to support these farmers, stating that a portion of the tariff revenue will be directed toward helping them.
In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote: "The Soybean Farmers of our Country are being hurt because China is, for 'negotiating' reasons only, not buying. We've made so much money on Tariffs, that we are going to take a small portion of that money, and help our Farmers. I WILL NEVER LET OUR FARMERS DOWN!"
Trump criticized the Biden administration for not enforcing the trade agreement with China, which included significant purchases of American agricultural products, particularly soybeans. He assured his supporters that "It's all going to work out very well," emphasizing his support for American farmers whom he described as patriots.
The upcoming meeting with President Xi will prominently feature discussions on soybeans, with Trump declaring his intention to "MAKE SOYBEANS, AND OTHER ROW CROPS, GREAT AGAIN!"
This announcement follows Trump's September 20 statement that President Xi had approved the TikTok deal, allowing the video-sharing platform to continue operating in the United States.
During an Oval Office press briefing, Trump shared: "I had a good call with President Xi. He approved the TikTok deal. We look forward to getting the deal closed. We have to get it signed; it could be a formality. The TikTok deal is on its way, and the investors are getting ready."
President Trump emphasized that the US would maintain "tight control" over the app, describing it as "a very good deal" for Washington. He acknowledged TikTok's popularity among young Americans and their parents.
Trump also expressed gratitude toward President Xi, calling him "a gentleman" and noting their "good relationship." He highlighted that American investors would have control of TikTok moving forward.
