Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel would maintain "security responsibility" over Gaza under the United States-backed peace proposal, while issuing a stern warning about Hamas's potential rejection of the plan.
Netanyahu outlined key elements of the proposed arrangement, emphasizing that "Hamas will be disarmed" and "Gaza will be demilitarized" as central components of the peace framework.
Speaking during a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu detailed that "Israel will retain security responsibility, including a security perimeter, for the foreseeable future," as part of the comprehensive approach to Gaza's future governance.
The Israeli Prime Minister further clarified that Gaza would operate under "a peaceful, civilian administration that is run neither by Hamas nor by the Palestinian Authority" following the implementation of the peace plan.
Netanyahu delivered an unambiguous warning regarding Hamas's response to the peace proposal: "If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or if they supposedly accept it and then basically do everything to counter it, then Israel will finish the job by itself."
He emphasized the inevitability of this outcome with a stark choice: "This can be done the easy way, or it can be done the hard way, but it will be done."
