Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old Indian man from Karnataka, was brutally murdered by his employee Cobos-Martinez last week following a dispute over a broken washing machine at the Downtown Suites motel in Dallas where Nagamallaiah served as manager.
Horrifying surveillance footage captured the Cuban immigrant chasing Nagamallaiah through the motel corridor. Despite attempts by Nagamallaiah's family to intervene, the assailant caught him and repeatedly attacked him with a machete. During the assault, Cobos-Martinez searched Nagamallaiah's pockets, taking his cell phone and key card before continuing the attack until Nagamallaiah was decapitated. Additional footage shows the perpetrator kicking the severed head on the road before disposing of it in a dumpster.
The 37-year-old attacker has been apprehended and faces capital murder charges.
## Background of Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah Known as 'Bob' to friends and family, Nagamallaiah had managed the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard, east of Downtown Dallas, for five years. According to his Facebook profile, he completed his education at Indiranagar Cambridge School and studied at National College in Bengaluru's Basavanagudi.
Nagamallaiah relocated to the United States in 2018, initially residing in San Antonio before settling in Dallas. He is survived by his wife Nisha and their 18-year-old son Gaurav, who recently graduated from high school and plans to study hospitality management—inspired by his father's career. A fundraiser established for the family has already collected nearly Rs 3 crore. Nagamallaiah's funeral service took place last week at a funeral home in Flower Mound, Texas.
According to the arrest affidavit, the attack was triggered when Nagamallaiah instructed another staff member to translate his directions about not using a broken washing machine rather than addressing Martinez directly, which angered the accused.
## Trump's Response US President Donald Trump addressed the murder on Monday, promising that the accused would be prosecuted "to the fullest extent of the law" and pledging to make "America safe again" by taking a harder stance on illegal immigrants with criminal records.
"I am aware of the terrible reports regarding the murder of Chandra Nagamallaiah, a well-respected person in Dallas, Texas, who was brutally beheaded, in front of his wife and son, by an ILLEGAL ALIEN from Cuba who should have never been in our Country," Trump stated on Truth Social.
Trump criticized the Biden administration for allegedly releasing Martinez after previous arrests for serious offenses including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment, claiming Cuba had refused to accept him back.
The Republican leader added, "Rest assured, the time for being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER under my watch! Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Border Czar Tom Homan, and many others in my Administration, are doing an incredible job in, MAKING AMERICA SAFE AGAIN. This criminal, who we have in custody, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. He will be charged with murder in the first degree!"
