UN Launches Investigation Into Technical Failures During Trump's Address at General Assembly

The United Nations has initiated a thorough investigation following President Donald Trump's allegations of "triple sabotage" during his UN General Assembly appearance. The incidents involved an escalator malfunction, teleprompter failure, and public address system issues that Trump characterized as deliberate sabotage, prompting the UN to pledge full transparency in their probe while explaining the technical circumstances behind each occurrence.

UN Tells Trump Probe Launched Over His 'Sabotage' Claims

The United Nations has informed President Donald Trump that they have initiated a "thorough investigation" into what the former president described as "triple sabotage" during his recent visit to UN headquarters.

Following a series of technical mishaps, the United States sent a formal letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday requesting explanations about an escalator malfunction that stranded Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, a non-functioning teleprompter, and issues with the public address system.

Stephane Dujarric, Guterres's spokesman, stated late Wednesday that "The Secretary-General informed the US Permanent Mission that he had already ordered a thorough investigation, and he conveyed that the UN is ready to cooperate in full transparency with relevant US authorities on this matter to determine what caused the incidents referred to by the United States."

Trump expressed his frustration in a lengthy social media post, characterizing the incidents as "very sinister," calling for arrests and revealing that the US Secret Service was conducting their own investigation.

"This wasn't a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves," Trump declared on his Truth Social platform, demanding "an immediate investigation."

The technical difficulties plagued both the lead-up to and during his keynote address to world leaders at the UN General Assembly hall in New York.

Video footage captured the 79-year-old president and Melania Trump boarding an escalator at the UN headquarters on Tuesday before it abruptly stopped, forcing them to proceed by foot.

Later, as Trump began his speech, he noted that his teleprompter was not operational.

Throughout the remainder of his address, Trump criticized the United Nations, accusing the organization of funding illegal migration that was turning the United States and European countries into "hell" and failing to support his peace initiatives in Gaza and Ukraine.

While Trump initially appeared to make light of the escalator incident, his tone became more serious the following day.

The UN has subtly pointed out that the teleprompter was operated by White House staff.

Regarding the escalator incident, Dujarric issued a statement to reporters Wednesday explaining that a videographer with the US delegation, who was filming on the escalator ahead of the presidential couple, accidentally triggered a switch that caused the moving staircase to stop.

Trump also alleged that the public address system had been manipulated to prevent his hour-long speech from being properly heard.

A UN official, speaking anonymously, clarified: "The sound system was designed to allow people at their seats to hear speeches being translated into six different languages through earpieces."
