A part of a road in Bangkok collapsed on Wednesday, leaving a large sinkhole that disrupted traffic, damaged infrastructure and prompted evacuations in the surrounding area.

A section of a road in Bangkok collapsed on Wednesday, creating a substantial sinkhole that caused traffic disruption, infrastructure damage, and led to evacuations in the vicinity.

No injuries were reported in the incident, though three vehicles sustained damage from the collapse, according to Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt. Officials believe the sinkhole formed due to ongoing construction work at an underground train station nearby.

Footage capturing the moment of collapse shows the road surface gradually sinking, pulling down electrical poles and rupturing water pipes. Vehicles attempted to reverse as the hole expanded, eventually completely severing the four-lane road. One edge of the sinkhole extended right to the front of a police station, exposing its foundation.

A hospital in the area announced closure of outpatient services for two days. City officials confirmed the hospital structure remained intact, but ordered evacuations from the police station and adjacent buildings as a precaution.

Authorities have suspended electricity and water services in the affected area. Governor Chadchart stated that relevant agencies are working urgently to repair the sinkhole, with particular concern about potential further damage from heavy rainfall.

The incident occurs during Bangkok's monsoon season.
