India "Mostly" With Ukraine On Kyiv's Conflict With Russia: Zelensky

President Zelensky highlighted the importance of maintaining India's support for Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.
New York:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed guarded optimism regarding India's stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that India stands "mostly" with Ukraine, while recognizing the complexities surrounding energy-related matters between New Delhi and Moscow.
Speaking to Fox News on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Zelensky emphasized the necessity of building stronger relations with India while addressing challenges concerning Russian energy dependencies.
"I believe India is predominantly on our side. We face issues regarding energy, but I think President Trump can address this. Strengthening European and Indian relations would be beneficial," Zelensky stated.
The Ukrainian leader stressed the critical need to prevent India from distancing itself from Ukraine, adding, "We must take all necessary steps to keep India engaged, and eventually they will likely reconsider their approach toward the Russian energy sector."
Regarding China's position, Zelensky noted that engaging Beijing presents greater challenges due to its historical alignment with Russia's interests.
"The situation with China is more complex because currently, it doesn't serve their interests to cease supporting Russia," the Ukrainian president remarked.
Zelensky expressed appreciation for US President Donald Trump's commitment to supporting Ukraine until the conflict's conclusion, emphasizing their shared desire for peace.
"Trump has demonstrated his willingness to support Ukraine until the very end. We now understand that we're prepared to conclude this war as swiftly as possible. He wants that, I want that, and our people want that, but he understands that Putin doesn't," he explained.
"What positively surprised me was the clear message from Trump and America that they will stand with us until the war concludes," Zelensky added.
He also contrasted this with Russian President Vladimir Putin's narrative, noting, "Putin knows he isn't winning, yet he continues to tell everyone that he is."
