PM Modi Expresses Condolences On Death Of Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti

The Saudi Royal Court officially announced the passing of the Grand Mufti on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound condolences on Wednesday following the death of Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, acknowledging the significant loss to both the Kingdom and the broader Islamic world.

Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared his sympathies and prayers for Saudi Arabia and its citizens during this difficult time.

"Deepest condolences on the sad demise of the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Eminence Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al AlSheikh. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kingdom and its people in this moment of grief," PM Modi wrote in his message.

The Saudi Royal Court confirmed the Grand Mufti's death on Tuesday, expressing sorrow over the loss of this revered religious leader who also held several prestigious positions including head of the Council of Senior Scholars, the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, and the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League.

"The Royal Court announced today the passing of Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh," the official statement declared.

The statement further indicated that funeral prayers would be conducted at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh following the Asr prayer on Tuesday.

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, directed that funeral prayers in absentia be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, and throughout all mosques across the Kingdom.

"Funeral prayer will be held for him at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer today. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has ordered that funeral prayers in absentia also be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom," the statement continued.

The Royal Court emphasized Sheikh Al Al-Sheikh's valuable contributions to Islam and Muslims, noting that "With his passing, the Kingdom and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar." Both Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed their condolences to the Grand Mufti's family, the Saudi people, and Muslims worldwide.
