Gaza:

Hamas militants publicly executed at least three Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday. The Hamas-controlled authorities alleged these individuals had been "collaborating" with Israel. This action appears to be part of Hamas's efforts to suppress growing resistance from Palestinian militias that Hamas claims are operating with Israeli backing.

Social media footage has surfaced showing the moments leading up to these executions. In the video, a masked individual issues warnings to "all collaborators" while three blindfolded men kneel on the ground. Reports indicate they were subsequently executed by gunfire in front of gathered spectators.

While NDTV cannot independently verify the video's authenticity, Reuters reporting suggests it was recorded in Gaza City. This assessment is based on matching buildings, road configurations, and signage visible in the footage with satellite imagery and file photos of the area.

Hamas Acknowledges Executions

A Palestinian security official from the Hamas-governed Gaza administration confirmed that the "Joint Operations Room of the Palestinian resistance" carried out Sunday's executions. The official stated that the videos documented the implementation of "revolutionary rulings" against individuals accused of security collaboration with Israel.

According to the official, these executions were intended to convey "a clear message and serve as a deterrent to anyone tempted to collaborate with the occupation."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly acknowledged in June that Israel is arming groups opposing Hamas, without specifying which ones. Yasser Abu Shabab, based in Israeli-controlled Rafah in southern Gaza, has emerged as the most prominent anti-Hamas rebel leader. Abu Shabab has denied receiving Israeli support or maintaining contact with the Israeli military.

The Palestinian security official claimed some of the executed men had connections to Abu Shabab. Abu Shabab's organization has not released any statement regarding these allegations.

Is Hamas Losing Control of Gaza?

According to Reuters, two years into the Gaza conflict and under constant Israeli military pressure, small armed Palestinian factions opposing Hamas have emerged in various parts of Gaza, conducting operations against the group.

Palestinian analysts suggest that while Hamas has been weakened, it could quickly suppress rival groups if a ceasefire were achieved. However, the ongoing war makes this difficult, particularly as these opposing groups operate freely in Israeli-controlled areas of Gaza.

Abu Shabab's armed faction recently used social media to recruit individuals with police and security backgrounds, offering monthly salaries ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 shekels ($890 to $1,500).

Additional anti-Hamas groups have appeared in Beit Lahiya and Shejaia in northern Gaza, as well as in eastern Khan Younis in the south, according to sources close to Hamas and local residents.

Palestinian analyst Akram Attallah told Reuters that these executions indicate significant concern within Hamas, particularly as opposition groups now operate beyond their traditional territories and demonstrate increasing capabilities, posing a growing threat to Hamas's authority.
