Director Rob Reiner, Wife Were Dead For Hours Before They Were Found: Report

Medical investigators have determined that the 78-year-old acclaimed filmmaker and his wife succumbed to stab wounds.

According to authorities, actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner had been deceased for multiple hours prior to their discovery at their Los Angeles residence. TMZ reported that early indicators of rigor mortis suggested a considerable time had elapsed between their deaths and when they were found.

Investigators have concluded that the renowned 78-year-old director and his spouse died as a result of stab wounds. Law enforcement has not disclosed any potential motive. The couple was discovered on Sunday afternoon by their daughter Romy, who contacted emergency services at 3:33 pm. Officials indicated that the bodies' condition suggests the homicides occurred during late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Insider sources described the crime scene as exceptionally disturbing, referring to it as a "nightmare" and the work of a "madman."

Individuals familiar with the investigation noted that rigor mortis had already begun developing when Romy arrived, a physiological process that typically initiates hours after death and is commonly utilized to establish a timeline for criminal investigations.

According to the National Institute of Health, "rigor mortis is completely formed 12 hours after death, is sustained for the next 12 hours, and vanishes over the next 12 hours."

Reports indicate that Romy warned investigators that her brother, Nick Reiner, was "dangerous" and "should be a suspect." Law enforcement subsequently arrested the couple's son in connection with the homicides.

Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody several hours after the bodies were discovered and remains incarcerated. Prosecutors have indicated he will face charges of first-degree murder, including special circumstances for multiple murders, along with an allegation regarding the use of a knife. He is being held without bail and has not yet entered a plea.

The case has also brought renewed focus to Nick Reiner's extensive battle with addiction, which he has previously discussed publicly.

Rob Reiner was an Emmy-winning performer best recognized for "All in the Family" before establishing himself as one of Hollywood's most influential directors, creating films such as "When Harry Met Sally…", "The Princess Bride", "This Is Spinal Tap", and "A Few Good Men". Michele Singer Reiner worked as a photographer, film producer, and dedicated advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. The couple had been married for 36 years.

US President Donald Trump connected the killings to Rob Reiner's outspoken criticism of his presidency. In a social media statement, Trump claimed the couple were killed "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."
