Heroic Elderly Couple Attempted to Stop Gunman During Deadly Bondi Beach Attack

A newly emerged video captures an elderly couple attempting to disarm one of the assailants during the Bondi Beach mass shooting in Sydney.

The dashcam footage, which has gained widespread attention on social media, shows an elderly man and woman engaged in a struggle with an armed attacker on the sidewalk.

In the grainy video, an older man wearing shorts and a lavender t-shirt can be seen wrestling with an armed individual in white trousers. At one point, both men fall to the ground while the elderly woman stands beside a silver car with an open door.

Though the couple did not survive the attack, they are being honored for their courageous actions. Australian media has identified them as Boris and Sofia Gurman.

The attack, which occurred during a Hanukkah celebration, claimed 15 lives, with victims ranging from 10 to 87 years old. Currently, 25 people remain hospitalized, with 10 in critical condition.

Another hero emerged during the incident - Ahmed al-Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit shop owner who was filmed tackling and disarming one of the attackers.

The violence began around 6:45 pm when two gunmen opened fire from a footbridge into the crowd. Ahmed confronted one attacker and managed to wrest the rifle away, likely saving numerous lives before being shot twice himself.

Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese acknowledged Ahmed's bravery, stating: "Ahmed al-Ahmed... took the gun off that perpetrator at great risk to himself and suffered serious injury as a result of that and is currently going through operations today in hospital."

The attack was carried out by a father and son. The older suspect, Sajid Akram, 50, was fatally shot by police during the incident. His son, Naveed Akram, 24, who allegedly participated in the attack, survived and is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision.

Australian investigators have classified the attack as terrorism inspired by the so-called Islamic State group.
