Two individuals lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in a shooting incident that occurred at Brown University on Saturday.

A Brown University student sent a harrowing text message to his mother while barricading himself during an active shooter situation on campus. On Saturday afternoon, at approximately 4:05 pm local time, a gunman dressed in black opened fire at the university, resulting in two fatalities and eight injuries. The shooter remains unapprehended as the university continues under lockdown protocols.

In an interview with Fox News, Shamsah Amersi recounted receiving a distressing text from her son, Jaden Anselmo, informing her about the active shooting situation unfolding on campus. "Students were in the middle of their final exams, so everyone was on campus studying," Amersi explained. "The first text I received from my son read: 'Mom, there's a live shooting on campus. I'm going to run, and I love you.'"

Amersi maintained text communication with her son throughout the ordeal, advising him to ensure his phone remained silent. She revealed that her son took shelter in a supply closet alongside twelve other students.

The shooting transpired in the Barus & Holley building, which houses both the School of Engineering and the physics department. Students were taking engineering design final exams when the suspect initiated gunfire.

More than three hours after the shooting began, police officers were still conducting thorough searches of campus buildings and examining trash receptacles, according to the Associated Press.

Law enforcement described the suspect as a male wearing dark clothing who was last observed departing from the engineering building where the attack occurred.

Mayor Brett Smiley reported that the eight injured victims were in critical but stable condition. He declined to specify whether the victims were students at the institution.

President Donald Trump was informed about the shooting incident at Brown University. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated, "I have been briefed on the shooting that took place at Brown University in Rhode Island. The FBI is on the scene."

The president initially indicated that the suspect had been apprehended but later corrected this statement, citing university police who confirmed the suspect remained at large.
