Bill Gates appears in one of numerous photographs released from Jeffrey Epstein's estate.
Washington:
On Friday, House Democrats released a collection of photographs from Jeffrey Epstein's estate, including images featuring Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and former Prince Andrew.
The dozens of initially released photos represent only a small fraction of over 95,000 images Democratic lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee received from Epstein's estate. Epstein died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. These released photographs are separate from the case files that the Department of Justice must now release, though anticipation builds as the Trump administration faces an upcoming deadline to produce the Epstein files that have fueled conspiracy theories and speculation for years.
The photographs were published without captions or contextual information and included a black-and-white image showing Trump alongside six women whose faces were redacted.
The president stated he hadn't viewed the released Epstein estate photographs, dismissing them as "no big deal."
Trump commented that Epstein was "all over Palm Beach" and possessed "photos with everybody."
Representative Robert Garcia, the leading Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, did not specify whether any women in the photos were abuse victims, but emphasized, "Our commitment from day one has been to redact any photo, any information that could lead to any sort of harm to any of the victims."
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson accused Democrats of "selectively releasing cherry-picked photos with random redactions to try and create a false narrative," characterizing it as part of a "Democrat hoax against President Trump."
Many of these photographs have previously circulated publicly. Democrats pledged to continue releasing photos in coming days and weeks, aiming to pressure Trump regarding his Republican administration's earlier refusal to release documents from the Epstein investigation. Garcia mentioned his staff had examined approximately a quarter of the images received from Epstein's estate, including photos sent to Epstein or in his possession.
"Donald Trump right now needs to release the files to the American public so that the truth can come out and we can actually get some sense of justice for the survivors," Garcia added.
He initially released 19 photos Friday morning, followed by approximately 70 additional images later that day, including one of Epstein bathing, another showing him with a swollen lip, pictures of his residence, and a photo of Epstein posing with a book about the scandal.
Trump, once close with Epstein, has claimed he distanced himself long before the sex trafficking charges emerged. Clinton has similarly downplayed his relationship with Epstein, acknowledging traveling on Epstein's private jet but stating through a spokesperson that he had no knowledge of the financier's crimes. Clinton has never been accused of misconduct by Epstein's known victims. Nevertheless, Republicans on the House committee are pressing for testimony from both Bill and Hillary Clinton in their investigation.
Representative James Comer, the Republican chair of the House Oversight Committee, threatened late Friday to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against the Clintons if they fail to appear next week or reschedule depositions for January.
A spokesperson for the Republican-controlled committee also stated that nothing in the received documents indicates "any wrongdoing" by Trump.
Andrew relinquished his royal titles and privileges this year amid new revelations about his connections to Epstein, though he has denied any misconduct.
The photo release also contained images of right-wing political strategist Steve Bannon, billionaires Richard Branson and Bill Gates, filmmaker Woody Allen, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and law professor Alan Dershowitz. All these men have denied wrongdoing in their associations with Epstein, who maintained numerous high-profile individuals in his social circle.
Following an earlier release of correspondence between Summers and Epstein, Summers stepped away from his teaching position at Harvard University and faced other consequences within academic circles.
Allen has faced allegations from his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, of childhood molestation, which he has denied.
Some lawmakers believe other powerful figures could be implicated in Epstein's abuse if the complete case files from the Justice Department are released.
Representative Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican who played a key role in passing legislation requiring public release of the files, considered it promising that the Department of Justice has sought to have grand jury material released from several courts.
"The grand jury material is just a small fraction of what the DOJ needs to release, because the FBI and DOJ probably has evidence that they chose not to take to the grand jury because the evidence they're in possession of would implicate other people, not Epstein or Maxwell," he stated.
