Israel Continues Military Strikes in Lebanon Despite Year-Old Ceasefire Agreement with Hezbollah

Despite a November 2024 ceasefire agreement, Israel conducted multiple strikes across Lebanon on Friday, targeting what it claims are Hezbollah installations up to 30 kilometers from the border. The Israeli military stated they struck a training compound used by Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force and additional military infrastructure, while maintaining troops in five strategic areas. These operations continue despite terms requiring Hezbollah to withdraw north of the Litani River and Lebanon's army to dismantle the group's military presence by year's end.

Israel Strikes Lebanon, Army Claims Targets Were Hezbollah Sites

Israel continues to conduct strikes on Lebanese territory despite the existence of a November 2024 ceasefire agreement.

Multiple Israeli strikes targeted areas in southern and eastern Lebanon on Friday, according to state media reports, with Israel's military stating they were targeting Hezbollah installations. These actions represent the latest military operations conducted despite a ceasefire that has been in place for a year.

Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) documented strikes affecting approximately twelve locations, some occurring up to 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the Israeli border, describing some as "heavy raids" in their reporting.

Despite the November 2024 ceasefire agreement that was intended to end over a year of conflict with the Iran-supported Hezbollah movement, Israel has maintained its military strikes on Lebanon. Additionally, Israeli forces continue to occupy five areas they consider strategically significant.

In an official statement, the Israeli military announced that its forces "struck a training and qualification compound" utilized by Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force, where operatives "underwent shooting exercises and additional training on the use of various types of weapons."

The statement further noted that the army also "struck additional Hezbollah military infrastructure in several areas in southern Lebanon."

According to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah was required to relocate its forces north of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers from the Israeli border, and dismantle its military infrastructure in that region.

Under a government-sanctioned plan, Lebanon's military is tasked with dismantling Hezbollah's military installations south of the Litani by year's end, before addressing similar structures throughout the rest of the country.

Most of the locations targeted in Friday's strikes were situated north of the river boundary.

Earlier this week, Israel conducted another series of strikes on southern Lebanon, similarly claiming to have targeted a Hezbollah training facility and other strategic positions.
