Jemima Goldsmith, the former spouse of Imran Khan, has made a public appeal to Elon Musk, the owner of X platform.
On Friday, Goldsmith claimed that her posts regarding the former Pakistani prime minister's situation are being suppressed on the social media platform.
According to Goldsmith, updates she shares about Khan's treatment by Pakistani authorities and his legal challenges "do not reach the public." She has urged Musk to address what she describes as visibility filtering affecting her account.
In her X post, Goldsmith revealed that her sons have been prohibited from meeting their father, who has allegedly been "held unlawfully" in solitary confinement for 22 months. She emphasized that X remains the "only place left" where she can inform the world that the PTI leader is a "political prisoner without basic human rights." Despite this, she asserts that the reach of her posts both within Pakistan and globally has been "throttled to almost zero."
"You promised free speech, not 'speech but no one hears it'," she stated in her message to Musk.
Previously, Goldsmith has accused Pakistani authorities of preventing her sons from communicating with their father and even threatening them with arrest if they attempt to visit Pakistan.
Concerns about Khan's treatment were reinforced this week by his sister, Aleema Khan. Speaking outside Adiala Jail on Wednesday, she stated, "We have been coming here for the last 8 months. We come here and sit every Tuesday. We are not allowed to meet Imran Khan. They are torturing him. He has been kept in illegal isolation. They should end this torture against Imran Khan." Her statements reflect the family's increasing concern regarding the conditions of Khan's detention and the ongoing restrictions on access to him.
These comments emerge amid continuing uncertainty about Khan's wellbeing and growing pressure from family members and PTI supporters who are demanding evidence of his condition.
In July last year, a panel of UN experts criticized Pakistan for arbitrarily detaining Khan in violation of international law, stating that his imprisonment appeared designed to prevent him from running for political office.
