Mumbai:

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella declared that humanity is entering a new technological era where artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding "the frontier of what is possible." He shared these insights during his presentation at the Microsoft AI Tour event held in Mumbai on Friday.

Nadella emphasized that current technology enables governments, organizations, and individuals to fundamentally reimagine their operations, enhancing customer experiences, employee productivity, and overall operational efficiency.

"The frontier of what is possible is changing, right? That's the exciting part for any of us when we talk about technology—it allows us to reimagine what we can now do, whether it's in our state, in our organization, or in our lives," Nadella stated.

He observed that artificial intelligence is transforming innovation across various sectors, including highly regulated industries like pharmaceuticals.

Nadella pointed out that pharmaceutical companies are now exploring ways to accelerate clinical trials and bring new medicines to market more rapidly, illustrating how industries are "moving on the frontier that we are all chasing."

According to the Microsoft CEO, navigating this new technological landscape requires embracing innovative approaches rather than relying on previously successful methods. He highlighted the importance of both "unlearning and learning," as established patterns may no longer yield results in the current technological environment.

When explaining how AI development differs from traditional approaches, Nadella noted that building AI systems contrasts significantly with creating conventional information systems. Rather than beginning with detailed specifications, AI development starts by defining the desired outcome.

"You don't start with a spec. You actually start with the test," he explained.

He further elaborated that developers now build evaluation rubrics to measure outcomes, create learning systems around these measurements, and continuously refine their models.

This process, Nadella explained, fundamentally inverts the traditional sequential approach to software development by starting with the intended impact and working backward.

Nadella stressed that adapting to this new technological frontier requires everyone to develop new skills and incorporate modern tools into their daily workflows. He emphasized that organizations need to integrate their data, tools, and workflows to support these skills and mindsets, making AI an everyday practice rather than an abstract concept.
