Mitchell asserted that approximately 12 million American technology professionals have lost employment opportunities due to the influx of "foreign-born workforce" in the tech sector.
Mark Mitchell, a prominent American pollster and commentator, has ignited controversy with his suggestion that major US corporations should undergo a process he terms "de-Indianise." Mitchell expressed his desire to establish a consultancy specifically to assist companies with this transition. His statements, shared on the social media platform X, have triggered widespread discussion regarding the contribution and presence of Indian professionals within America's technology industry.
"I have never in my life wanted anything more than this: to build a new corporate consultancy helping major firms de-Indianise," Mitchell declared in his post.
This controversial statement emerged shortly after Mitchell, who serves as the chief pollster at Rasmussen Reports, voiced criticism regarding the increasing presence of Indian professionals entering the United States through the H-1B visa program during a podcast appearance.
During his guest spot on 'The War Room' podcast hosted by Stephen Bannon, Mitchell specifically targeted what he described as Indian dominance in the H-1B visa program. He made the provocative claim that repatriating a senior H-1B developer employed at prestigious companies such as Apple would have the equivalent economic impact as deporting ten undocumented immigrants.
"But for every single H-1B, you know, senior developer at Apple that we send back, that's the equivalent economically, probably, of deporting ten illegal aliens. So, I don't know why we didn't do that yesterday. And the idea, yes, a lot of these people are entry level, but a lot of them are making a tonne of money," Mitchell stated in the December 8 podcast.
The American pollster alleged that 12 million American technology workers have been rendered jobless because the "foreign-born workforce" has effectively 'indificated' Silicon Valley.
"Silicon Valley's got some of the highest real estate, the highest real estate in the entire country. Well, its workforce is roughly 2/3 foreign-born. Walmart buildings that were like 85-95% per cent Indian nationals, and so they come in on these, you know, these golden pathways, and they take these jobs," he continued.
Mitchell further accused leading American technology companies of depending on a cost-effective immigrant workforce, which he claims circumvents American professionals. He suggested that senior American engineers are being overlooked by companies that have access to a "bottomless well of younger third-world engineers."
"You know, people like me who have a family, who are a little more expensive, maybe have gotten a few raises. My health insurance is a little more expensive. Really easy to replace me and have me train my replacement," Mitchell elaborated.
"A single H-1B developer earning 90,000 dollars is like importing ten undocumented labourers earning 9 dollars an hour," he added.
Mitchell's controversial remarks followed a recent report revealing that approximately 66 percent of technology professionals are immigrants, with 23 percent being of Indian origin and 18 percent of Chinese descent.
Mitchell's "de-Indianise" comment has prompted significant backlash across social media platforms, with numerous users condemning his statements as racially discriminatory.
One user on X remarked, 'If you said you wanted to make major American firms de-Jew you wouldn't have a career left. However, in the American conservative world it is OK to be openly racist towards a model minority."
Another critic responded, "Note that this nut has moved from H-1Bs all the way to 'Indians', meaning even US-born, 2nd-gen Indian-Americans are people he wants to disenfranchise."
"Imagine saying this about ANY other ethnic group. Gee, maybe this is why your employability is limited."
