Elon Musk has reflected on his experience with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), stating it was "a little bit successful" in its mission.
During a podcast interview with Katie Miller, formerly a DOGE spokesperson and wife of Trump's deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, the billionaire entrepreneur shared his thoughts on his government cost-cutting role.
Musk led DOGE operations from a small office in the executive building for several months, where he implemented significant cuts to federal workforce and agencies following Donald Trump's return for his second presidential term.
The relationship between Musk and Trump deteriorated dramatically in June, however, when the Tesla CEO publicly criticized the White House's major tax and spending legislation as "utterly insane and destructive."
When asked if he would take on the DOGE role again, Musk responded with a clear "No, I don't think so."
He elaborated by saying, "I think instead of doing DOGE, I would've basically...worked in my companies, essentially. And they wouldn't have been burning the cars."
This statement referenced reported vandalism incidents at Tesla dealerships and charging stations during Musk's DOGE tenure.
Despite his reservations, Musk acknowledged some positive outcomes: "We were a little bit successful. We were somewhat successful. We stopped a lot of funding that really just made no sense, that was entirely wasteful."
The actual financial impact of DOGE remains difficult to verify. While the DOGE website claims cuts totaling $214 billion, independent analysts suggest these figures may not represent true savings.
