Imran Khan's Sisters Protest Outside Adiala Jail Amid Health Concerns

Islamabad: The sisters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan staged a protest outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, expressing profound concerns regarding his health and safety while in custody.

Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan assembled outside the prison facility, voicing serious apprehensions about Imran Khan's wellbeing and security. Enhanced security measures were implemented around the jail during their demonstration.

This protest follows Uzma Khanum's visit with Imran Khan inside Adiala Jail on December 2, after which she alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder was enduring "severe mental torture" amid widespread speculation about his condition.

Following her meeting, Uzma confirmed that Imran Khan was alive but raised alarms about his physical state and detention conditions.

She claimed the former premier appeared weakened, emotionally distressed, and isolated. "Imran Khan's health is absolutely fine. He is angry. He said that they are subjecting him to mental torture, and that Asim Munir is responsible for all of this," Uzma stated, directly referencing Pakistan's Army Chief.

The interaction reportedly lasted approximately 20 minutes. Subsequently, PTI leadership has reinforced their demands for independent medical evaluations and authorization for regular legal consultations and family visitations. The government has not yet provided an official response to Uzma's allegations.

Concerns about Imran Khan's condition intensified following unverified Afghan media reports suggesting he had died in custody. His son, Kasim Khan, requested evidence of his father's wellbeing, noting on social platform X that "845 days" had passed since Imran's incarceration and claiming he had been confined in "a death cell" for six weeks without family access.

Imran Khan has remained imprisoned since August 2023 facing multiple legal cases. For over a month, authorities have implemented stringent restrictions on visitations, which PTI alleges are being enforced at the direction of a military officer—an accusation officials have denied.

PTI maintains that allowing Uzma Khanum to meet her brother represents only an initial step and insists that regular, unrestricted meetings must now be permitted in accordance with court directives as political tensions persist surrounding the imprisoned opposition leader.
