Tragic Incident: Seven Pit Bulls Fatally Maul Man and His 3-Month-Old Granddaughter in Tennessee Home

A devastating incident occurred in Tennessee where seven pit bulls fatally mauled a 50-year-old man and his 3-month-old granddaughter in their own home.

James Alexander Smith and his infant granddaughter were discovered by authorities on Wednesday afternoon at their Tullahoma residence. According to reports, the family's dogs, which had previously displayed aggressive behavior in the neighborhood, were responsible for the deadly attack.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Smith unresponsive inside the house while the infant was still being attacked by the dogs. Officers had no choice but to shoot all seven pit bulls to gain access to the victims, as stated by the 14th Judicial District Attorney General's Office.

Unfortunately, by the time police managed to neutralize the dogs and reach the child, she had already died from her injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

The district attorney's office described the scene as "especially difficult and brutal," requesting prayers for both the victims' family and the first responders who witnessed the traumatic event.

A neighbor, Brian Kirby, told media outlets that he witnessed a woman screaming in the street shortly before authorities arrived. When he offered assistance, she ran back into her home, followed moments later by police who then subdued the pit bulls.

Kirby alleged that the dogs had previously shown violent tendencies, claiming they had killed his pet cat of eight years.

"I don't believe that they thought this would ever happen," Kirby stated. "I'm sure it was not done on purpose. I think that people just have animals, and they just need to put them on a leash better; that's all."

He added, "And I'm not blaming them for what happened at all. I know that they're devastated more than we are because it's their family. It's just hard to understand and wrap your head around it."
