Andhra Pradesh Man Missing in Mali: 26-Year-Old Borewell Operator Allegedly Kidnapped by Rebels While Working Abroad

A 26-year-old man from Talapula Mandal in Sri Satya Sai district has reportedly disappeared in an African country, according to his family's statement on Thursday.

The family reports that K Ramachandran traveled to Mali for employment, though officials have not yet confirmed which specific African country he went missing from, in what appears to be a potential abduction case.

Police authorities believe Ramachandran may have been kidnapped by local rebels while returning from his workplace.

Employed as a borewell operator in an African nation for a private company over the past year, Ramachandran was working in a region where many individuals from his home district commonly seek similar employment opportunities, according to police officials.

Sri Satya Sai District Superintendent of Police (SP) S Satish Kumar informed PTI: "According to the family, Ramachandran has been missing for over 10 days while working abroad in Africa."

Another police representative indicated that rebels allegedly captured a group of 10 individuals, including Ramachandran, as they were making their way back from work.

Law enforcement officials stated that no demands have been made by the rebels at this point.

The disappearance came to light when Ramachandran's family and friends had no contact with him for a period of 10 days.

There remains uncertainty regarding which specific African nation he disappeared from.

Sai Kumar, a relative of Ramachandran, stated that his uncle went missing in Mali, West Africa, where he had been employed as a borewell operator for approximately one year.

Ramachandran's employer contacted his family to inform them that he was kidnapped on November 23.

Authorities have not yet identified those responsible for the disappearance, according to Sai Kumar.

He further explained that Ramachandran was abducted alongside an individual from Telangana, adding that no additional information about the kidnappers or any potential demands has been received thus far.
