Mysterious Drones Detected Near President Zelensky's Aircraft During Dublin Arrival: Security Alert Details

During Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's state visit to Ireland, up to five unidentified drones were detected near his aircraft's flight path, triggering a major security alert. While the aircraft landed safely, investigations continue into the origin of these drones, which coincided precisely with the timing of the presidential flight's scheduled arrival. European officials have labeled similar recent airspace disruptions as "hybrid warfare."

5 Mysterious Drones Spotted Near Zelensky's Jet As He Lands In Dublin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived for a state visit to Ireland on Monday, during which an Irish navy vessel detected up to five drones operating near his aircraft's flight path, according to local media reports published Thursday.

This sighting prompted a significant security alert due to concerns it might have been an attempt to interfere with the flight path, the Irish Times reported. Sources speaking on condition of anonymity indicated that the aircraft, which landed slightly ahead of schedule, was not in any danger.

The Ukrainian delegation arrived Monday evening and departed late Tuesday as part of Zelensky's European tour aimed at garnering support for Ukraine amid Russia's ongoing military campaign.

Europe has recently experienced disruptions in airspace operations due to drone flights of mostly unknown origin. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has described these incursions as "hybrid warfare."

According to The Journal website, which first broke the story about the drone sightings at Dublin airport, the unmanned aircraft reached the location where Zelensky's plane was expected at precisely the moment it had been scheduled to pass.

Investigations are underway to determine whether the drones were launched from land or from an undetected vessel. Both news outlets reported that the drones were initially spotted northeast of Dublin, approximately 20 km (12 miles) from the airport.

Ireland's Defence Forces declined to comment on the specifics of any alleged incidents, citing operational security reasons. However, a spokesperson stated, "Defence Forces support to the security operation, led by An Garda Siochana (police), was successfully deployed in multiple means ultimately leading to a safe and successful visit."
