Russian President Putin's 27-Hour Visit to India: Warmly Welcomed by PM Modi

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Thursday evening for a brief but significant 27-hour visit to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed him at Delhi's Palam airport after the Russian leader's plane touched down at 6:35 pm.

Upon arrival, the two leaders shared a warm greeting with a handshake followed by a friendly embrace, demonstrating their cordial relationship. After exchanging pleasantries, both leaders departed from the airport in Prime Minister Modi's personal vehicle.

The visit began with PM Modi hosting President Putin for a private dinner at his official residence, setting the stage for more formal discussions to follow. Their scheduled talks will take place at Hyderabad House in a restricted format, where they are expected to address key bilateral and international issues.

This marks President Putin's first visit to India since the commencement of Russia's conflict with Ukraine in 2022, highlighting the significance of Indo-Russian relations even amid global geopolitical tensions.

On Friday, President Putin will receive a ceremonial welcome before the formal discussions begin. Following their talks, both leaders will address the media with official statements. The Russian President's itinerary also includes paying respects at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial on Friday.

Throughout his 2-day visit, Putin will engage in comprehensive discussions on various strategic matters of mutual interest, reinforcing the long-standing partnership between India and Russia.
