On Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that it would be inaccurate to claim President Vladimir Putin had entirely rejected the US proposals regarding the Ukraine conflict.
The Kremlin announced that President Putin had accepted certain US proposals aimed at ending the war in Ukraine while rejecting others. Russia remains open to multiple meetings with US negotiators until an agreement can be reached.
Peskov's comments followed extensive talks in Moscow between Putin and representatives from US President Donald Trump, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. These discussions continued into the early hours of Wednesday, after which a Kremlin aide noted that "compromises have not yet been found."
Speaking to reporters, Peskov emphasized that characterizing Putin's response as a rejection would be incorrect, as the meeting represented the first face-to-face discussion of these proposals.
According to Peskov, Putin's selective acceptance of some proposals and rejection of others constitutes normal negotiation procedure.
