Trump Urges Israel to Maintain Strong Dialogue with Syria Amid Rising Tensions

US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Israel on Monday regarding potential destabilization of Syria and its new leadership, following recent deadly operations by Israeli forces in southern Syria.

"It is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria's evolution into a prosperous State," Trump stated on his Truth Social platform.

Trump expressed being "very satisfied" with Syria's development under former Islamist rebel President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who made a landmark visit to the White House in November.

The US President has been advocating for a security agreement between Israel and Syria since Sharaa's Islamist coalition ousted longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad approximately one year ago.

However, tensions have escalated due to hundreds of Israeli strikes on Syria. The most lethal incident occurred Friday when Israeli forces killed 13 people during an operation in southern Syria, claiming they were targeting an Islamist group.

Trump noted that Sharaa "is working diligently to make sure good things happen, and that both Syria and Israel will have a long and prosperous relationship together."

He further stated that the United States was "doing everything within our power to make sure the Government of Syria continues to do what was intended" in rebuilding the war-torn nation.

Trump added that positive relations between Syria and Israel would complement his broader efforts toward Middle East peace following the fragile Gaza ceasefire established in October.
