At a memorial service attended by over 60,000 people, Erika Kirk addressed the crowd about her late husband Charlie Kirk.
United States:
During a deeply religious address at Sunday's memorial event, Erika Kirk, 36, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, expressed forgiveness toward the man accused of taking her husband's life.
"My husband Charlie, he wanted to save young men just like the one who took his life," she declared to the massive gathering at an Arizona stadium, which included US President Donald Trump among the more than 60,000 attendees.
"That man, that young man. I forgive him," Erika stated, her voice breaking with emotion.
"I forgive him because it was what Christ did. And it's what Charlie would do," she continued with conviction. "The answer to hate is not hate."
Charlie Kirk, who was 31, lost his life on September 10 when he was shot during a public debate at a Utah university campus.
The activist had leveraged his extensive social media following, substantial podcast audience, and university appearances to strengthen Trump's appeal among young voters while advocating for nationalist, Christian-centered political ideology.
According to authorities, the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, justified his actions by referencing the "hatred" he claimed Kirk propagated, investigators reported.
Kirk was known for promoting conservative Christian political values and frequently made inflammatory statements directed at various minority groups, including transgender individuals, Muslims, African Americans, and others.
Robinson now faces seven charges related to the shooting, including aggravated murder, with prosecutors indicating their intention to pursue the death penalty in his case.
