The National Medical Commission (NMC) has denied a request from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra to allocate all of its MBBS seats to the All India Quota (AIQ), which would have been filled through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
According to an NMC official, such a proposal contradicts established policy guidelines. "We cannot allow a single institution to place 100 percent of seats into MCC, as government policies clearly specify what percentage of seats should go to the Medical Counselling Committee versus state counselling," the official explained to ANI.
The official further elaborated that making exceptions for individual organizations would require policy amendments. "We cannot make isolated or random deviations. Implementing this change specifically for one organization would necessitate amending existing policies. Any policy change regarding seat percentages would need to consider similar institutions across the country before admission norms could be modified."
The NMC representative stressed that admission criteria must be consistently applicable across all states. "We must establish criteria that are acceptable to both the home state and other states throughout India," the official stated.
This decision comes amid calls from certain right-wing groups to modify the selection criteria for medical seats following this year's MBBS admissions process.
