Kolkata:

A 10th grade student was discovered hanging from the ceiling in her room in Sonarpur, located in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, following the circulation of artificially generated nude images of her on social media platforms, according to police statements released Friday.

The young girl, who had been residing at her maternal uncle's residence, was rushed to a nearby medical facility where medical professionals pronounced her dead upon arrival Thursday night, as stated by a police official.

"We have formally received a complaint alleging that a married individual from the neighborhood has been subjecting her to harassment," the officer explained.

In their official complaint, family members alleged that the man had obtained photographs of the girl and utilized artificial intelligence technology to create fabricated nude images, which were subsequently distributed online.

"The family has additionally accused members of the man's household of participating in the harassment campaign. They are demanding severe legal consequences for all parties involved," the officer continued.

Initial police reports indicate the teenager may have taken her own life as a result of sustained psychological distress stemming from both personal harassment and online abuse, the police representative added.
