Initial reports had attributed the officer's death to job-related pressure and stress.
A shocking 32-page suicide note has emerged in the case of Cherpulassery Station House Officer (SHO) Binu Thomas, 52, who was found deceased in his quarters on November 15. The note contains serious allegations against a senior police official, detailing claims of sexual exploitation, intimidation, and systematic harassment.
Thomas, who hailed from Thottilpalam, documented extensive accusations in his final message, transforming what was initially reported as a stress-related suicide into a case involving allegations of institutional misconduct and subsequent attempts to conceal evidence.
The note specifically implicates a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) currently stationed in Kozhikode, who previously served as a Sub-Inspector in 2014. According to Thomas's account, this officer allegedly visited the residence of a young woman previously arrested in a moral policing case in Palakkad and sexually exploited her.
Thomas claimed the DSP arrived at the woman's home during evening hours when only her mother and two children were present, and used his position of authority to coerce her. The note suggests the officer threatened to manipulate the case and prevent media coverage, leaving the victim with no choice but to submit.
In his writings, Thomas stated he was compelled by the senior officer to facilitate this exploitation, an experience that profoundly affected him and initiated a period of severe mental distress that continued until his death.
Previously translated portions of the note reveal that Thomas repeatedly accused his superior—now serving as a DSP in Kozhikode district—of persistent harassment, pressure to maintain silence about misconduct, and attempts to involve him in improper activities.
Thomas wrote that this continuous psychological pressure ultimately led to his deteriorating mental health and eventual suicide. He additionally alleged that officers attempted to suppress the contents of his suicide note following his death.
The disclosure of these allegations has sparked significant public outcry, with claims that influential figures attempted to protect the accused senior officer. Reports indicate that portions of the suicide note may have been deliberately withheld during initial investigation stages.
The case has now attracted statewide attention across Kerala, with increasing demands for an independent investigation and potential criminal proceedings against the implicated senior official.
Officials have not yet released formal statements addressing the allegations, though legal and departmental actions are anticipated to follow.
