Chennai:
Former AIADMK veteran KA Sengottaiyan has been appointed as Chief Coordinator of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's (TVK) newly formed 28-member High-Level Administrative Committee following his formal induction into the party. TVK leader Vijay announced that the senior politician will head this committee, provide assistance on all major decisions, and play a pivotal role in developing the party's strategy for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu elections.
The experienced nine-term MLA has also been designated as organizing secretary for several western districts - Erode, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and the Nilgiris - regions where he maintains significant influence.
Strategic Addition to Address TVK's Organizational Challenges
Sengottaiyan's recruitment and immediate promotion highlight TVK's requirement for structured political leadership. While Vijay enjoys widespread popularity, the party has suffered from a lack of experienced secondary leadership - a deficiency that became evident during the tragic Karur stampede in September that claimed 41 lives. TVK faced public criticism regarding its unorganized response, absence of senior leadership on-site, and insufficient crisis management capabilities.
By positioning Sengottaiyan in this top organizational role, TVK aims to address these deficiencies and establish a more disciplined, election-prepared structure.
Vijay's Endorsement: 'His Experience Will Significantly Benefit TVK'
In his video message welcoming Sengottaiyan, Vijay stated:
"He joined MGR's movement at just 20 years of age. Throughout his 50-year political journey, he has served as a trusted associate of two significant leaders - MGR and Jayalalithaa. Sengottaiyan's political wisdom and field experience will greatly benefit TVK. I welcome brother Sengottaiyan and others joining our movement."
In a written statement, Vijay further emphasized that the veteran's administrative expertise, discipline, and grassroots understanding will "substantially strengthen" TVK's preparations for the 2026 elections.
Sengottaiyan's Initial Statement: 'Citizens Desire Transparent Governance'
The former minister observed that Tamil Nadu's political climate is ready for change - and identified Vijay as the representative of this transformation.
KA Sengottaiyan remarked, "People welcome change. They desire to establish transparent governance in Tamil Nadu. Change is necessary. Vijay has embarked on this journey precisely for that purpose. Not only TVK supporters but citizens wholeheartedly embrace this change and are eager to support him. The 2026 elections will usher in a government that is welcomed and accepted throughout Tamil Nadu. My dear brother Vijay will triumph in 2026. This will manifest through a significant people's revolution."
His appointment indicates TVK's evolution from a personality-centered movement toward a more structured political organization.
Strategic Recruitment Before 2026 Elections
With AIADMK weakened by ongoing expulsions and the NDA coalition fractured, TVK views Sengottaiyan as a political heavyweight capable of providing the organizational strength required for its first major electoral contest and attracting leaders and supporters from AIADMK. Today, several others joined alongside Sengottaiyan, including former AIADMK MP Sathyabama.
