Handwara:
On Thursday, Handwara Police executed a raid at Jamia Islamia Institute located in Waripora, Handwara, following reliable intelligence information. This operation was part of an ongoing investigation into suspected illegal activities and potential connections to prohibited organizations.
Officials reported that police personnel searched the institute thoroughly and confiscated several electronic devices during the raid. These devices have been sent for detailed forensic analysis to evaluate their usage patterns and verify suspected links, particularly possible associations with Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI), which continues to operate as a banned organization.
The police authorities confirmed that the operation adhered strictly to established legal protocols and emphasized that investigations are continuing. An official stated, "Handwara Police is committed to taking firm action against individuals or entities found involved in unlawful or anti-national activities," while reassuring the public that transparency and accountability remain fundamental principles guiding the investigation.
Additional information will be released as the investigation advances.
Previously, Shopian Police conducted similar operations within their district. These operations involved carefully coordinated searches across multiple locations throughout Shopian, focusing on individuals and properties connected to the banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), which is prohibited under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI-J&K) has faced multiple bans by the Indian government. The most recent prohibition was implemented in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) due to alleged "anti-national separatist activities" and connections with groups such as Hizbul Mujahideen. This ban was subsequently extended for an additional five years in February 2024.
Earlier, on November 12, Anantnag Police also executed coordinated raids within their district as part of an extensive crackdown against Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).
