Rajasthan Farmer Plants Currency Notes in Field: A Desperate Protest Against Failed Crop Insurance System

A viral video has captured widespread attention, showcasing the growing frustration among farmers dealing with unresponsive insurance companies.

In a remarkable demonstration of protest, a farmer from Nagaur district in Rajasthan decided to plant Rs 500 notes across his field after being repeatedly denied crop insurance compensation. This self-recorded video has gained significant traction across social media platforms, highlighting the severe challenges agricultural workers face following natural disasters.

Mallaram Bawari from Deoria Jatan village had previously secured a Rs 1 lakh bank loan to cultivate cotton on his land. Unfortunately, excessive seasonal rainfall caused a nearby water pond to overflow, completely waterlogging his field and destroying his entire cotton crop. The devastating loss left him with only Rs 4,000 worth of produce from his investment.

The video documents this unusual protest where Bawari is seen planting currency notes in the same soil where his failed crops once stood.

Despite having properly insured his crop, Bawari claims he received no compensation whatsoever. After filing a formal complaint through the insurance company's toll-free service, he alleges that no representative ever came to his field to evaluate the damage. Frustrated by this systematic neglect, he resorted to this symbolic act of protest by sowing actual Rs 500 notes in his devastated field.

"My act was a symbolic protest against the disappointment I've faced from government schemes and officials," explained farmer Mallaram Bawari. "Excessive rain caused the water pond in my field to overflow, submerging the entire area. The cotton crop was completely destroyed due to prolonged waterlogging," he added.
