BJP launches scathing attack on BRS leader KT Rama Rao after his comments at NDTV Yuva's Mumbai event

New Delhi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fierce criticism against former Telangana minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao following his suggestion that India could potentially face a Nepal-like Gen-Z protest if governments fail to meet public expectations.

BJP leaders pointedly referred to Mr. Rao as a "nepo kid," highlighting that the Gen-Z protests in Nepal targeted nepotism - an apparent reference to Mr. Rao's family connections, as his father K Chandrashekar Rao heads the BRS party and previously served as Telangana's Chief Minister.

During his appearance at NDTV Yuva's Mumbai event yesterday, KT Rama Rao (commonly known as KTR) claimed many Telangana residents now regret voting against the BRS in the 2023 election. "I expect a revolt in two years and we may be back in power in the fifth year," he stated. While clarifying he wasn't specifically referencing "Gen-Z and Nepal," he added a warning: "That might also happen if governments actually fail. I am forewarning you on that. What happened in Nepal recently was nothing but suppression of democracy, suppression of the voice of Gen-Z."

"Initially, even the media mocked when the Gen-Z was protesting. They said they were protesting internet disruption. But eventually... what were they protesting? They were protesting for their future," he explained.

When asked if a Nepal-like scenario might unfold in India, he responded, "If governments continue to fail the aspirations of the people, why not?"

NDTV's Padmaja Joshi put this question to a vote, and the young audience members strongly disagreed with the possibility of such protests occurring in India, voting "no." KTR responded with, "You never know... the night is still young, let's see."

The footage of KTR's comments and the audience's reaction quickly went viral, providing BJP leaders with ammunition to criticize the former minister.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister and former BJP chief in Telangana, took aim at KTR by describing him as a "nepo kid." Notably, the hashtag 'Nepo kids' gained popularity during the Nepal protests, which highlighted the extravagant lifestyles of ministers' children.

Nepal's Gen Z hit the streets against Nepotism. But Telangana's Gen Z did it first - by voting out KCR & kids, giving BRS - a big zero in Lok Sabha and ending their family rule in the state. Here , this Nepo kid has got the reality check he deserved.India's Gen Z is ruthless… https://t.co/MT0gVkZC8T

Amit Malviya, senior BJP leader and head of the party's IT department, dismissed KTR as "another clueless Nepo Kid".

Previously, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had referenced India's Gen-Z, stating they would "protect the Constitution" and "defend democracy." After ABVP secured key positions in the Delhi University Students Union election, BJP leaders countered Mr. Gandhi, asserting that Gen-Z does not support his party.
