A formal case was filed at Ghatkopar police station on Tuesday evening following serious allegations.
Mumbai:
A 10th-grade student from Mumbai has raised disturbing accusations against her mother and a male neighbor, claiming they forced her into prostitution for financial gain. The allegations have prompted immediate police action with an investigation now underway, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
Officials reported that the case was officially registered at Ghatkopar police station on Tuesday night after the girl's school teacher filed a formal complaint.
According to the teenager's statement, the coercion began in April of this year and continued until the complaint was filed. The girl described being repeatedly forced into prostitution by the two adults.
Unable to bear the continued abuse, the student eventually confided in her class teacher, bringing a friend along for support. She revealed that she had once escaped her home situation by staying at a friend's residence for three days, but upon returning, was again forced back into the illegal activity, police officials stated.
The teacher, shocked by these revelations, promptly informed school administrators who then alerted local law enforcement.
Based on the complaint, authorities have charged both the girl's mother and the male neighbor under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 64 (rape) and 98 (selling child for the purpose of prostitution). Additional charges have been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to officials.
