A man in Mathura allegedly murdered his brother's widow after she refused to give him the full insurance settlement following her husband's death.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in Syarah village within the Shergarh area, according to police reports.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Arti, had been widowed when her husband Sukhveer died in a road accident in 2023.
Police officials stated that a legal case regarding the insurance compensation was still pending in court, with a judgment expected to be delivered soon.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chand Rawat, the accused, Rajveer (also known as Raju), had repeatedly confronted Arti about the insurance money. However, she consistently refused his demands, insisting she needed the funds to raise her children.
On Tuesday morning, while Arti's children were asleep, Rajveer visited her residence. The interaction quickly escalated into a heated argument.
In a violent outburst, Rajveer allegedly struck Arti multiple times on the head with bricks, causing severe injuries, before fleeing the scene.
Her sons, Pankaj and Sumit, called for help, prompting villagers to rush Arti to the hospital. Unfortunately, medical staff pronounced her dead upon arrival.
Rawat confirmed that her body underwent a post-mortem examination before being returned to the family. Arti's cremation took place on Wednesday.
Authorities have registered an FIR against Rajveer based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother. Police are actively working to apprehend the accused.
