Devender Yadav, along with other Congress leaders, criticized both the current BJP and previous AAP governments regarding Delhi's pollution crisis.

New Delhi:

On Wednesday, Delhi Congress leaders conducted a press conference while wearing masks and equipped with oxygen cylinders to emphasize the deteriorating air quality in the national capital. They demanded that the ruling BJP administration address this "health emergency" immediately.

The national capital's air quality was measured in the "very poor" category Wednesday morning, registering an AQI of 335. Delhi has been struggling with poor air quality continuously for the past 12 days.

Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav announced plans to submit a formal memorandum to the Delhi government regarding the alarming pollution situation.

"As evident here, our leaders are sitting with oxygen cylinders. While this is symbolic today, given Delhi's current situation, the day isn't far when everyone will need to carry oxygen cylinders for survival," he stated.

Addressing the difficulties faced by construction workers, Yadav explained, "Whenever GRAP III is implemented, construction activities are banned. These workers simultaneously battle pollution while facing the additional pressure of lost daily wages." He noted that hospitals are currently overwhelmed with patients suffering from respiratory conditions.

Yadav mentioned that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had made promises to reduce the capital's pollution levels.

He recalled former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's accomplishments, stating that during her administration, the government had successfully managed environmental challenges.

"We transitioned buses from diesel to CNG. Metro Phase I and II were completed ahead of schedule under the Congress government, demonstrating our effectiveness," he added.

Yadav also criticized the previous AAP government for failing to implement measures that would strengthen public transportation during their tenure.

Other Congress leaders at the press conference described the current air quality situation as a genuine health emergency.
