Bloodstained Bodies Of Man, Woman Found Inside Car In Tripura

Police were alerted after residents in the area reported hearing what sounded like gunshots.

Guwahati:

The blood-covered bodies of a young man and woman were discovered inside a Hyundai vehicle near the Holokhet Rail Bridge in Udaipur town, located in Tripura's Gomati district on Wednesday.

Law enforcement responded quickly after local residents reported hearing suspected gunshots. Upon arrival, police and fire service personnel found the two individuals lying in blood inside the car.

Emergency teams initially attempted to save the male victim, believing he still showed signs of life. He was removed from the driver's seat and transported to Gomati District Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival. The female victim was subsequently found unresponsive in the back seat.

Authorities identified the deceased as Suhel Mia from Amtali and Jannat Akhter from Shilghati, both residents of the same district.

Senior law enforcement officials, including Gomati district superintendent of police Dr Kiran Kumar, arrived at the location shortly after being notified of the incident.

Dr Kumar, who is heading the investigation, stated that the discovery occurred during routine patrol operations. "The female victim was already deceased when officers arrived. The male victim had sustained serious bullet wounds. He was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries in the ambulance en route," he informed reporters at the scene.

Officials from R.K. Pur police station have initiated an investigation, though authorities indicate it is premature to determine whether the deaths resulted from homicide, suicide, or other circumstances.

"All possibilities remain under consideration at this point," a high-ranking police source stated. "We are examining every potential scenario."

A forensic unit examined the vehicle and gathered preliminary evidence, including biological samples and ballistic materials. Initial findings indicate Jannat sustained a gunshot wound to the posterior of her head, while Suhel was struck in the left side of his chest.

A firearm was also recovered from within the vehicle. According to police reports, local residents initially observed what appeared to be a pistol near the victims before officers secured the weapon.

Investigators are currently awaiting CCTV footage that may document the vehicle's movements prior to the incident, along with call records and forensic analysis results, in their effort to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The incident has caused considerable shock throughout Udaipur, typically a peaceful town more renowned for its temples and lakes than violent incidents. Local residents gathered near the bridge as information about the event spread, though authorities secured the area to prevent crowding and preserve evidence integrity.
