Speculation is mounting that Vijay might offer Sengottaiyan a prominent role within TVK leadership.
Chennai:
Former AIADMK stalwart KA Sengottaiyan met with actor Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Chennai today, fueling widespread rumors about the nine-time MLA potentially joining the newly formed political party. This significant meeting follows Sengottaiyan's recent public advocacy for reinstating expelled AIADMK leaders VK Sasikala, O Panneerselvam, and TTV Dhinakaran, claiming their return was crucial for revitalizing the party that has experienced three consecutive electoral defeats since Jayalalithaa's passing.
Sengottaiyan, a political veteran who has been affiliated with AIADMK since its founding by MG Ramachandran, is recognized as one of the key tacticians who orchestrated J Jayalalithaa's statewide campaigns. His behind-the-scenes expertise in planning her tours and coordinating grassroots mobilization contributed significantly to the party's electoral success.
Earlier today, the veteran politician resigned from his position as MLA, intensifying speculation about his next political move. When questioned about joining TVK, he responded, "Please wait for a day." While AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami initially only removed him from party positions, Sengottaiyan was eventually expelled after meeting with Sasikala and OPS during Thevar Jayanthi, directly challenging party directives.
Should Sengottaiyan join TVK, he would become the first major political figure to enter Vijay's party, which has been promoted as a platform offering "people's share in power" if elected. His potential inclusion comes at a critical time for TVK, which faces scrutiny following the Karur rally tragedy that resulted in 41 deaths, revealing organizational weaknesses and a lack of experienced secondary leadership. Sengottaiyan's decades of experience as an MLA, minister, and organizer could address these deficiencies. TVK has yet to resume Vijay's statewide campaign.
Reports suggest that Vijay may offer Sengottaiyan a senior leadership position within TVK, indicating a significant organizational push ahead of the 2026 elections.
