5 Dead in Tragic Canal Accident in Uttar Pradesh: Driver Survives as Wedding Return Trip Ends in Disaster

The vehicle driver was the only survivor of the tragic accident.

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night when five individuals lost their lives after their car fell into a canal on the Dhakherwa-Girijapuri barrage road, according to police reports released on Wednesday.

Sub-Inspector Abhishek Singh informed PTI that the group was returning to Bahraich following a wedding celebration in Lakhimpur when the accident took place.

Police identified the deceased as Jitendra (23), Ghanshyam (25), Lalji (45), Ajimulla (45), and Surendra (56), all residents of Bahraich district.

Authorities have sent the bodies for postmortem examination.

"The only survivor, Suraj alias Babbu, also from Bahraich, was operating the vehicle at the time of the incident. He received treatment at the Ramiabehar primary health centre, where medical staff confirmed his condition is not life-threatening," stated Singh.
