Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called upon citizens to fulfill their Constitutional duties, emphasizing that these responsibilities form the cornerstone of a robust democracy.
In his letter addressed to citizens on Constitution Day, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening democracy through voting rights. He proposed that educational institutions celebrate Constitution Day by recognizing first-time voters who have turned 18.
PM Modi referenced Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy that rights emerge from duty performance, emphasizing that fulfilling duties serves as the foundation for societal and economic advancement.
He emphasized that today's policies and decisions will influence future generations, and urged citizens to prioritize their duties as India progresses toward the vision of a developed nation (Viksit Bharat).
"Our Constitution prioritizes human dignity, equality, and liberty. While granting us rights, it also reminds us of our civic duties, which we should strive to fulfill. These duties establish the foundation of a strong democracy," PM Modi stated in a separate message on X.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the Constitution's architects, noting, "Their vision and foresight continue to inspire us as we work toward building a developed India."
