CCTV Captures Suspected Deliberate Hit-and-Run Attack on Former Shiv Sena MLA Nirmala Gavit

CCTV footage captures the moment just before a vehicle struck former MLA Nirmala Gavit from behind while she was walking with her grandchild.

A shocking incident occurred in Maharashtra's Nashik where Nirmala Gavit, a former MLA from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction, was deliberately hit by a car while walking with her young grandchild and a female companion.

Gavit, who has served as MLA for two terms, sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a nearby hospital.

The disturbing event was captured on CCTV surveillance, which strongly suggests the collision was intentional. The footage shows that the road had ample space for the vehicle to safely pass the pedestrians. More suspiciously, the car appeared to slow down at a distance behind Gavit before accelerating and striking her from behind.

After the collision, which narrowly missed hitting her grandchild, the driver did not stop to render assistance but instead fled the scene rapidly, disappearing from the camera's view.

Local police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the suspect. They are currently investigating whether the hit was deliberate, though the video evidence points strongly in that direction.

Nirmala Gavit comes from a prominent political background as the daughter of former Union Minister and Congress leader Manikrao Hodlya Gavit. She represented the Igatpuri assembly constituency twice before leaving the Congress party in 2019 to join Shiv Sena.

Following the split within Shiv Sena, Gavit aligned herself with the Eknath Shinde faction this May. When making this transition, she had remarked that while leadership might change, the party's essence remains the same.

Reports indicate that approximately one hundred thousand women supporters of the former legislator have publicly expressed their support for her political decisions and pledged allegiance to whichever faction she chooses to follow.
