Srinagar:
Officials confirmed that remnants of a shell that detonated in Dal Lake during May's Operation Sindoor were uncovered during a cleaning campaign in the water body.
Staff members from the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) discovered the shell fragments during Saturday's cleaning efforts.
Authorities stated that the recovered remains were transported to the nearest police station for further examination and appropriate action.
On May 10, following loud explosions that echoed through Srinagar, a projectile resembling a missile landed deep within Dal Lake—a prominent tourist destination in the city.
Officials had reported that smoke rose from the lake's surface when the object made impact. Security forces subsequently retrieved the debris.
Another suspicious object was found the same day in Lasjan on the city's outskirts. Residents of Srinagar reported hearing multiple explosions on May 10.
Operation Sindoor was India's military retaliation against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack on April 22 that resulted in 26 fatalities.
