Delhi has successfully completed trial runs for tethered hot air balloon rides, with public launches anticipated in the near future. These rides will provide visitors with a spectacular aerial perspective of the capital city.
Adventure enthusiasts and tourists will soon have a new attraction in Delhi as the city prepares to launch hot air balloon rides following successful trials. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance eco-tourism opportunities while offering unique views of Delhi's revitalized green spaces.
On Tuesday, the inaugural trial flight took place at Baansera Park with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena experiencing the ride firsthand. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has outlined plans to operate these tethered balloon rides at four strategic locations: Baansera, Asita, Yamuna Sports Complex, and Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex.
The service is expected to be operational between November and February, taking advantage of ideal flying weather conditions. Passengers can anticipate ticket prices of approximately Rs 3,000 plus taxes for rides lasting between 7-12 minutes, accommodating groups of up to four people.
According to DDA officials, "Tethered flights will be available for four hours each day, with potential extensions based on public demand." Once fully operational, riders will enjoy panoramic views of the Yamuna riverfront, Delhi's urban landscape, and newly developed green areas.
This hot air balloon initiative aligns with DDA's ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna floodplains. Asita, previously encroached land, has been transformed into a verdant green space. Similarly, Baansera, formerly a construction waste dumping site, now features over 30,000 bamboo plants, water features, and a musical fountain. Both the Yamuna Sports Complex and Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex, which serve as major recreational centers, are being prepared for the balloon ride launch.
The four designated locations for the new hot air balloon rides are Yamuna Sports Complex, Commonwealth Games Sports Complex, Asita Riverfront, and Baansera Bamboo Park.
It's important to note that these will be tethered rides, meaning the balloons remain secured to the ground rather than floating freely. The DDA has selected a private operator to manage and run this exciting new service.
