Construction is expected to take three years to complete.

Adani Gets Environmental Nod For Luxury Thiruvananthapuram Airport Hotel

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has approved Adani Airport Holdings Ltd's Rs 136-crore luxury hotel project within the premises of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

This approval came after a comprehensive review conducted by the Expert Appraisal Committee (Infra-2) during its meeting in August, according to sources on Tuesday.

The hotel development will cover over 8,000 sq m inside the airport area, featuring 240 rooms and food-and-beverage facilities with a seating capacity of 660.

Official documents indicate that the site is currently functioning as an open parking area within the airport, which is under the operation of the Adani Group.

The land was transferred to Adani Group's airport division through a long-term concession agreement with the Airports Authority of India, signed in January 2021.

The planned five-storey structure will reach 23 metres in height, comprising two basement levels for parking, a ground floor, and four upper floors. The total built-up area will be approximately 34,000 sq m.

Officials stated that the project will utilize treated water from an on-site sewage treatment plant, with recycling expected to fulfill about half of its daily water requirements.

Waste management will be handled through organic-waste converters and authorized recycling services.

The 40 existing trees at the location will be transplanted elsewhere within the airport grounds. The developer has designated space for a green belt and plans to implement measures aimed at reducing energy consumption by up to 20 percent.

The ministry confirmed that the site does not fall within any eco-sensitive or forested areas and faces no pending legal challenges.

It also noted that the clearance was processed at the central level due to the temporary absence of Kerala's State Environment Impact Assessment Authority.

The project, with its Rs 136 crore budget, is anticipated to require about three years to complete.

Officials mentioned that the development could generate around 300 direct jobs and support approximately 900 indirect employment opportunities, adding that the hotel aims to enhance passenger amenities and strengthen the city's tourism sector.

A source revealed that the five-star hotel is part of Adani Group's broader 'City Side Development' strategy for Thiruvananthapuram.

The company expects the facility to serve not only air travelers but also foreign crew arriving on large cargo vessels docking at the Vizhinjam port, which is also operated by the Adani Group.

Recently, the union government allocated an immigration counter at the Vizhinjam International Seaport, enabling crew-change operations and potentially fostering additional development in the region.
