A six-year-old boy suffered severe injuries, including the loss of his right ear, after a pit bull attack in northwest Delhi's Prem Nagar area.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Vinay Enclave when the child was playing outside his house.
The pit bull suddenly emerged from a neighbor's residence and charged at the boy. The dog is owned by Rajesh Pal, a 50-year-old who works as a tailor.
Police received a call at the Prem Nagar station at 5:38 pm reporting that the child had been seriously injured and taken to hospital by his parents.
The boy sustained major wounds, with the dog biting off his right ear. Neighbors helped the parents rescue him from the animal before they rushed him to BSA Hospital in Rohini.
He was subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital where he continues to receive medical treatment.
According to preliminary investigation, the pit bull had been brought into the home approximately one-and-a-half years ago by Sachin Pal, the son of Rajesh Pal. Sachin is currently in jail facing attempted murder charges.
Authorities have obtained the child's medical records and taken a statement from his father, Dinesh, who is employed at a private factory in Kirti Nagar.
Based on the complaint and medical evidence, police have registered a case at the Prem Nagar police station and arrested the dog owner, Rajesh Pal.
